We often find ourselves at a crossroads between what we want and what God calls us to do. Sometimes, His plans don’t align with our desires, and the path He lays before us feels difficult, uncomfortable, or even unfavorable in our eyes. But choosing to obey God, even when it’s not easy, leads to blessings far greater than temporary comfort.
Trusting God's Plan Over Our Preferences
Our human nature gravitates toward ease and familiarity. We prefer paths that feel safe, opportunities that promise success, and relationships that require little sacrifice. But God’s ways are higher than ours, and His wisdom surpasses human understanding.
Why Do We Struggle to Obey When It’s Difficult?
Fear of the Unknown
We like to be in control, and stepping into God’s will often requires walking by faith, not sight.Desire for Immediate Comfort
God’s timing and methods may not align with our expectations, making obedience feel inconvenient.Attachment to Personal Plans
Sometimes, what God asks of us means letting go of dreams we’ve built for ourselves.Doubt in God's Goodness
When His plan challenges us, we might question if He truly has our best interests in mind.
A Biblical Example – Joseph’s Journey of Faith
Joseph’s life is a powerful example of choosing obedience despite hardship. Betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned—Joseph’s journey seemed anything but favorable. Yet, he remained faithful to God in every circumstance.
Through it all, God’s plan was unfolding. Joseph rose to power in Egypt, ultimately saving many lives during a severe famine—including the very brothers who betrayed him. When they feared his vengeance, Joseph reassured them:
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20)
Joseph’s story reminds us that God is always at work, even in our suffering. What may seem like a setback is often a setup for something greater.
The Blessing of Surrender
Choosing obedience, even when it’s difficult, brings:
Spiritual Growth – We mature in faith when we trust God over our emotions.
Divine Provision – God equips us with everything we need to fulfill His calling.
Unseen Blessings – What seems unfavorable now often leads to unexpected joy and fulfillment.
Scripture reminds us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Living Out Obedience Daily
Pray for God’s Strength – Ask Him to help you obey even when it’s hard.
Seek His Word – Let Scripture guide your decisions, not personal emotions.
Surrender Your Plans – Be willing to trade your desires for His perfect will.
Walk in Faith – Trust that what He calls you to do will always lead to something greater.
A Call to Trust and Obey
What has God been asking you to do that feels least favorable? Maybe it’s forgiving someone, stepping out in faith, or letting go of something you’ve been holding onto. Whatever it is, trust that His plan is always good, even when it’s not easy.
Obedience isn’t about choosing what’s comfortable—it’s about choosing what’s right. Let’s commit to following God wholeheartedly, knowing that His ways lead to the greatest blessings.
